Happy VE Day 75 from Burley
Published: 25 May 2020
Due to the Coronavirus emergency and consequent Government guidance, the Parish Council was forced to cancel the VE Day 75 community celebrations due to take place on the May bank holiday weekend. However that didn’t stop residents recognising the event with bunting of their own and some socially distant tea parties at home.
The Two Rivers Dance Band was due to play at the Queens Hall over the weekend, but given the circumstances they played a virtual concert in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society on YouTube. Recordings were made in bedrooms, hallways, studies and sitting rooms, in the street and in the garden shed. Within the first 24 hours the concert had been viewed over 300 times and the band had raised over £1000 for the charity. Band members had less than one week to contribute more than 26 pieces each lasting at least 26 seconds. Altogether it’s a 70 minute musical celebration of collaboration and community music making.
The virtual concert is now available to view online here: https://youtu.be/mfBGMejShCo
