Skate Park Campaign
Published: 29 January 2020
Who doesn’t love a good skate park? Even if you daren’t have a go yourself, many of our younger residents are quite prepared to launch themselves off the edge into sweeping bends, flying leaps and death defying spins and landings. Looking at the current state of Burley Skate Park, it’s time it had a revamp. Improvements to the skate park don’t necessarily have to come from public money, and there have been some great public campaigns of late that have demonstrated our strength of community when it comes to fundraising.
With the sport of skateboarding making its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this year, what better time to improve our local skate park, and get more kids into this skilful, healthy and creatively rich activity. If you were ever in any need of inspiration, check out Sky Brown, who at 12 years old, will be Britain's youngest summer Olympian ever!
A new campaign is being launched to help fund raise funds for improvements to the skate park. Please support the Project, and the events and fundraisers that will pop up over the coming months. Details can be found on Facebook - where the campaign will be announcing the first meeting in the next couple of weeks. Everyone will be welcome, so please come along and spread the word!
Jan Edwards (firstname.lastname@example.org) will be leading the activities, so please feel free to contact her if you want to do ANYTHING - car wash, supermarket bag packing, sponsored walk? Get the kids involved, every penny helps!
