First World War Commemoration Event
Published: 09 November 2018
On Sunday 11th November, the Parish Council are organising a special feature of the reminiscences and recollections from Burley, through readings from local diaries and newspapers from 100 years ago. In this way, those of us who live in Burley today can reach back through time to hear the personal thoughts and public opinions of those who lived in Burley at the time. The aim is to make this a very personal reflection for Burley residents, taking inspiration from those who lived through the events 100 years ago
This free of charge event will be suitable for all ages and will take place in the Queens Hall on Sunday 11th November at 5pm. The event will open with drinks and light refreshments in the small hall. The Two Rivers Wind Quartet will be playing while members of the public will be invited to review archive material on display in both halls. At 5.30pm the Burley Theatre Group will provide a theatre in the round performance of selective readings from diaries, letters and newspaper articles published 100 years ago. Members of the public will then be able to continue reviewing the archive material on display in both halls, before retiring to Grange Park to witness the lighting of our village beacon as part of a national commemoration event.
Please come and join this unique event and share in the reflection of Burley residents who lived through this historic event 100 years ago
