WILL YOU BE AFFECTED BY CHANGES TO LOCAL FLIGHT PATHS? Leeds Bradford Airport is proposing to introduce new flight routes next year as part of the national Airspace Change Programme. The most significant of these for Burley in Wharfedale is the western departure route between Burley and Menston. Further to the drop in sessions held last year, two presentations of the final proposals, with particular emphasis on the effect on Burley, will be given by the airport's Head of Air Traffic Services Mr Jim Wylie. Each will be followed by a question and answer session. To be held on Tuesday 9th October in Salem Church Hall, Burley in Wharfedale, at 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Salem Church Hall is reached via a snicket between the Queens Head pub and the World of Beds, opposite the Queen's Hall on Main Street. It can also be reached from Grange Park near the playground. Burley-in-Wharfedale Parish Council Burley-in-Wharfedale Parish Council is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic person for the post of Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer. The hours of work are 35 per week and the salary is in accordance with the Local Government NJC LCP 43 -47 (£39,002 -£42,806). The successful candidate will be accountable to the Council for the management of its resources and ensure that the legal, statutory provisions applying to the activities of the Council are observed. Burley-in-Wharfedale is a dynamic and effective Parish Council which last year assumed responsibility for a broad range of services from Bradford District Council, including the local library, parks, open space, youth provision and the Queens Hall for which the Parish Council have committed to undertake some £575,000 of repair and refurbishment activities. Proactive and forward thinking, Burley-in-Wharfedale is the first Parish Council in the Bradford district to deliver a Neighbourhood Plan, and so doing put in place planning policies that will help deliver a vision for Burley’s place in with the wider Bradford area. With a recent increase in its responsibilities, in addition to the clerk, the Parish Council currently employs 5 part time members of staff to support the delivery of a range of services. These services extend well beyond statutory requirements but, complement, support and enhance services at a local level. Burley Parish Council is the natural focus of a range of public activities and service delivery, giving a democratic voice to the village. It is a modern organisation, in touch with over 9,000 local residents through and with a strong volunteer base of 50 for running library services, and a further 50 who help distribute newsletters every quarter. With an active web site, Facebook, mail chimp, twitter service monthly e letter and quarterly Newsletters, the council aims to reach as many residents as possible and engage them in building a stronger community. The 2018 budget is £250,000 which means the Parish Council has an operating income larger than many small businesses, and this commercial outlook was reflected in 2017 when less than half the annual income was obtained via the precept.
