Over the past four years Burley Parish Council has been working to produce a Neighbourhood Plan to enable residents to have greater say over how Burley should grow and develop over the next few years. Burley are the first council in the Bradford to put forward a Neighbourhood Plan, so the process has been somewhat protracted since we have had to forge new processes within Bradford that will help the 9 other councils that are following on behind.
Following the independent examiner’s report to confirm our plan meets the right basic standards, Bradford Council formally endorsed the plan and issued instructions to Bradford Electoral Services to to hold a referendum on 3rd May. Residents living in Burley who are registered to vote in local elections will be entitled to vote in the referendum, which will be conducted following similar procedures to those used at local government elections.
If the plan receives a majority vote in favour from residents, it will then become part of the statutory development plan for the Bradford District.
Once our Neighbourhood Plan has been adopted, planning applications will still be determined by Bradford in the normal way, but now taking into account policies set out in our Neighbourhood Plan.
