Mike and his family have lived in Burley since 2001, and he has been on the council since 2012. He is currently Chair of the council, Chair for the Finance Committee and Chair of the Staffing Committee

With a background in the private sector, Mike is keen to see that the Parish Council can benefit from the best practice that exists outside local government in order to both deliver the activities expected of the council, but also to look afresh at risks and opportunities brought about by significant changes taking place as a result of the Government’s localism agenda

This has ranged from introducing social media and a web site, through to supporting the work of the Neighbourhood Plan and offering a commercial view on the delivery of improved services within Burley

Mike is also on Executive committee of the Burley in Wharfedale Scouts and Guides

Councillor Niccola Swan

Contact: 01943 863826

I have lived in Burley since 1997, having moved here with my husband and two sons because of my job. I live in a new 'ecohouse' on Moor Lane.

I worked for Barclays PLC for 25 years, ending my career there in 2005 as Regional Director for the North East. I then worked in mental health as the director of Leeds Mind. I am now retired and do lots of voluntary work particularly in the areas of mental health, dementia, learning disability, the library, refugees, the NHS, the Community Trust, Burley Bridge, Ilkley Playhouse and rights at the end of life.

I am delighted to have been elected to the Parish Council; I love our village and think that we are very privileged to live here. However, there are always things that could be better and I am particularly interested in improving facilities for older people, for people with disabilities and for people who may be isolated, and also in ensuring that the special character of our village is maintained.

Councillor Chris Hunt

Chair of the Planning Committee

I have lived in the village since 2001 and have run a small business here since 2010. As an architect I have a keen interest in the built (and natural) environment and in planning related issues. I hope that I can make a positive contribution as we plan for significant growth in the village in the near future. Having worked in the village for five years and being an active member of the Burley & District Chamber of Trade I hope that I will be in a good position to represent the interests of other small local independent businesses and organisations.

I am married with one daughter who attends Burley Oaks Primary School. My wife also trained as an architect and works with me in our practice in the centre of the village.
