Councillor Niccola Swan

I have lived in Burley since 1997, having moved here with my husband and two sons because of my job. I am presently involved with building two new 'ecohouses' in my front garden on Moor Lane, and will live in one of them.

I worked for Barclays PLC for 25 years, ending my career there in 2005 as Regional Director for the North East.

I am delighted to have been elected to the Parish Council; I love our village and think that we are very privileged to live here. However, there are always things that could be better and I am particularly interested in improving facilities for older people, for people with disabilities and for people who may be isolated, and also in ensuring that the special character of our village is maintained.

I have lived in the village since 2001 and have run a small business here since 2010. As an architect I have a keen interest in the built (and natural) environment and in planning related issues. I hope that I can make a positive contribution as we plan for significant growth in the village in the near future. Having worked in the village for five years and being an active member of the Burley & District Chamber of Trade I hope that I will be in a good position to represent the interests of other small local independent businesses and organisations.

I am married with one daughter who attends Burley Oaks Primary School. My wife also trained as an architect and works with me in our practice in the centre of the village.
